On 12-15 May Navigation Systems, Technologies and Services, an International Congress and Exhibition was successfully run at Expocentre Fairgrounds. Co-located with the Svyaz-Expocomm2009 International Exhibition the event comprised, the 3rd International Satellite Navigation Forum and the NAVITECH-EXPO2009 International Exhibition. The project was organized by Expocentre and the Professional Conferences Company with the support from the Russian Federal Space Agency (ROSCOSMOS) and the Association of Designers, Manufacturers and Users of Equipment and Applications based on Global Navigation Space Systems GLONASS/GNSS Forum.

The project was enormous in scale and relevance, and, undoubtedly, became Russias major event dedicated to satellite navigation technologies that are becoming a global device that finds application in almost every human activity.

NAVITECH-EXPO2009 brought together leading Russian and foreign developers and manufacturers of navigation equipment who demonstrated advantages of using navigation technologies and services in various economic and business areas. On a floor space of 700 sqm net the Exhibition showcased personal navigation equipment, cartography and navigation software, navigation, security and safety systems, geodesic equipment, radio components, and other developments and solutions.

The list of exhibitors comprised 105 companies from Belarus, Canada, China, France, Germany, Lithuania, Russia, Taiwan, Ukraine and the USA, and included such companies as ALMAZ-ANTEY, IZHEVSKII RADIOZAVOD, KB NAVIS, M2M TELEMATIKA, MIO, MKB KOMPAS, NAVTEQ, NOVATEL, RNII KP, TRANZAS, TRIMBLE, just to name a few.

On May 12-13 the Professional Conferences Company held GLONASS/GNSS-Forum, the 3rd International Satellite Navigation Forum. The event was attended by 1,057 Russian and foreign delegates and covered by over 240 media representatives; 105 speakers delivered their reports.

The Forum enjoyed support from the Russian Federal Space Agency, the Ministry of Regional Development of Russia, the Russian Ministry of Transport, the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Federal Agency for Information Technologies, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Moscow Government, the Association of Regional Telecom Operators, and the Association of Russian Diplomats.

Mr Sergey Ivanov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Government, opened the Forum and emphasized that the Russian Government considered implementation of navigation technology in the national economy as a measure to resolve transport problems, improve transport availability and affordability, enhance transportation safety, and improve ecology. Further, he noted that the GLONASS system allowed its application not only in the territory of Russia but also globally.

Representatives of the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Department of State reported on the current state and development of the GPS system as well as on the U.S. policy in the field of navigation.

Representatives of the European Commission and European companies highlighted the Galileo system development prospects and issues related to the Universal Time scale and GNSS coordination and prospective use of navigation technology in everyday life.

On 12 May 2009 there was a press conference devoted to holding the Navigation Systems, Technologies and Services International Congress and Exhibition. The conference delegates told about newly developed products; discussed vital issues relating to navigation, cartography and law regulations; put forward their proposals on how to create favourable conditions for efficient implementation of innovations.

The 3rd International Satellite Navigation Forum and the NAVITECH-EXPO2009 International Exhibition became a key event for both Russian satellite navigation specialists and numerous potential users of navigation technology. The excellent organization of the event allowed the navigation market participants not only to demonstrate new solutions and developments, but also to make new contacts, which is necessary for successful business development.

The next edition of Navigation Systems, Technologies and Services, scheduled for 11-14 May 2010, will be co-located with the 4th International Satellite Navigation Forum and the NAVITECH-EXPO2010 International Exhibition at Expocentre Fairgrounds.
